Showcasing innovative solutions to Utah’s housing challenges, Ivory Homes in partnership with the City of South Jordan led a tour of Bingham Court, a recent Ivory development of 24 single-family and 26 townhomes, providing 50 total units, to the Salt Lake Chamber’s Housing GAP Coalition, Salt Lake City Councilmembers, the League of Cities and Towns, and other stakeholders. Mayor Dawn Ramsey, demonstrating the leadership needed to tackle housing affordability challenges, described how her team and Ivory Homes worked together to help citizens of South Jordan understand the need for growth in housing and support the new development.

This Bingham Court community is part of a larger effort in Ivory Homes’s Workforce Housing Priority initative. They have committed to ensuring that Utahns can afford to call our state home and make a real impact on the lives of people who make our community great. Outside of any government requirement, the program is designed to set aside homesites to provide housing affordability opportunities to our most vital workforce.

While developing Bingham Court, Ivory Homes worked with the City of South Jordan to change general plans and zoning to allow for a variety of housing within the community. South Jordan used affordable housing funds to off-set some infrastructure costs, lowering the cost basis of the development. Ivory worked with neighbors to ensure their voices were heard throughout the entitlement process and as a result, received support from the community through the duration of the project.

Ivory set aside nine units, dispersed throughout the community, as Workforce Housing to be sold to city employees that qualify as moderate-income housing, facilitating employee’s first time home ownership. These homes have deed restrictions to guarantee that they will remain in the affordable housing pool beyond the first homeowner.

Ivory Homes’ Utah Workforce Housing Priority has now helped more than 500 of Utah’s most essential workers become homeowners.
