In partnership with Herriman City, Ivory Homes has built an inclusive playground and park in their Juniper Estates community, with the hope of promoting physical activity, fitness, nature engagement and inclusion. It is a park that has been designed using research-based best practices for play and recreation destinations for children of all walks of life.

Tucked into the hillside of the Oquirrh Mountains southwest of Salt Lake City, Herriman has transformed from a sleepy farm community into a bustling suburb just in the last 20 years. The park is named “L & L Hamilton Park” after Lowell and Lorraine Hamilton, two lifelong Herriman residents that were well known for their service to others. After Lowell passed away March 27, 2018, Lorraine and the Hamilton sons have carried on the family tradition of giving back to the community.

L & L Hamilton Park is on 4 acres of land with amenities including a playground, trail, parking lot, landscaping and utilities for a restroom. This partnership between Ivory Homes and Herriman City provides an opportunity to move forward together on a project and improve upon the progress already made. A survey was done to gather information on the needs of people with disabilities throughout the community and provided the evidence that there is a need to provide a space that is available for all to use.

Some of the features include paved pathways accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and scooters, wheelchair friendly tables, and a playground with ramps wide enough to accommodate a gait trainer and/or an adult next to a child. This park also features four benches facing the playground that are surrounded by artificial turf, providing additional areas to throw a blanket to sit on, as well as a consistent surface level for pedestrian traffic. The playground is surrounded by Accolade Elm trees that grow well in the Herriman soil, and will provide the much sought-after shade for hot summer days. The restroom attached to the pavilion will consist of two single-occupant restrooms designated as family restrooms, one including an adult changing table. The pavilion will house two wheelchair-accessible picnic tables. And that’s not all: This park also contains a large, open grass space that will be used for soccer games or other activities, with a seat wall along the north side providing excellent viewing opportunities.

Ivory Homes is excited about this opportunity to partner with Herriman City in bringing this park to life for all children to enjoy.
