Summer is quickly approaching, and we all know everyone’s favorite thing about the season is the sunshine! At Ivory Homes, we want to soak up every moment of it—and there’s no better place to do that than in the comfort of your own yard. Here are a few of our favorite tips for getting your lawn summer-ready:

• Clean Up Your Lawn
Start your cleanup now—before the temperatures soar—so you’re prepared to enjoy your lawn all summer long. Rake up leaves, twigs, and any other debris. Remove dead grass or thatch, and edge the borders for a clean look that defines walkways and flower beds.

Be consistent with weed control, as summer is a prime time for weed growth. Aerate your lawn to improve water and nutrient absorption and to encourage healthy root development. Mow regularly to keep your grass thick and green, and aim to maintain a height of about 3–4 inches for optimal summer growth.

• Plant Shade Trees
Consider planting shade trees in designated areas—away from your lawn—to offer natural protection from the sun and wind. During the peak of summer heat, you’ll appreciate the cooler spots they provide for both your yard and yourself. Plus, trees and landscaping plants add beauty and depth to your outdoor space, making it an even more inviting place to relax.

• Water and Fertilize Wisely
Water deeply and infrequently to encourage deep root growth. Let the soil dry out between waterings, and aim to water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce water loss from evaporation.

Fertilize in early summer to supply essential nutrients for continued growth. If you notice dry or patchy areas, now is a great time to overseed. This will help improve the overall density and health of your lawn.

• Add Your Own Twist!
Spice things up with a garden or a burst of fresh flowers! Try planting tomatoes, basil, mint, or peppers—and enjoy watching them grow. Now is the perfect time to put down roots so you can enjoy a harvest later in the summer and fall.

Getting your lawn ready for summer doesn't have to be complicated—with a little preparation, you can create a vibrant, welcoming outdoor space perfect for relaxing and entertaining. By cleaning up early, maintaining healthy mowing and watering habits, adding shade and greenery, and even planting a small garden, you’ll set the stage for a season full of sunshine and outdoor enjoyment. A well-prepped lawn is the first step to making the most of your summer at home.
