A recent article from the Deseret News featured one of the possible solutions to housing affordability for many families and individuals in the state – Accessory Dwelling Units or “ADU’s.”
As housing prices continue to dramatically increase along the Wasatch Front many city and state leaders and housing advocates are considering ADU’s and numerous other alternatives to mitigate this housing affordability issue.
Accessory dwelling units are one of the top choices because there are many options and opportunities for how they are added to an existing home or property.
It could be a mother-in-law apartment, coach house, guest cottage, or a garage or attic conversion. They come in a variety of types that can be attached or even detached from the main housing space.
“…They may also be a solution to a problem that is putting thousands of individuals and families on the brink of housing instability,” writes Deseret News reporter, Jasen Lee.
