Ivory Homes employees are taking the Clear the Air Challenge this February. The month-long challenge, backed by the Salt Lake Chamber and in partnership with UCAIR and TravelWise, is designed to encourage Utahn’s to reduce their vehicle emissions by choosing alternative forms of transportation.

The goal? Eliminate 300,000 single occupant trips to save two million miles driven.

The Clear the Air Challenge started in 2009 and since then, Utahns have helped improve the state’s air quality through smarter travel options through strategies like carpooling, using mass transit, active transportation and teleworking.

“As the top homebuilder in the state, we are excited to take on the Clear the Air Challenge,” said Bryon Prince, vice president for Ivory Homes and chair of the company’s sustainability committee. “We believe our employees and partners can truly make a difference, reduce our miles and build upon our success to improve air quality.”

As part of the challenge, the Ivory Homes team will be tracking miles driven through the TravelWise Tracker. Individuals who save the most trips or miles will be awarded special prizes.

Ivory Homes participation in the Clear the Air Challenge continues to build from its Ivory Green campaign, focused on caring about the communities Ivory Homes builds and Utahns live in by building energy efficient homes and planting thousands of trees across the state through the 30,000 Tree Initiative. Weekly Spotlight: Construction Team

The Ivory Homes construction team has taken steps to make the Clear the Air Challenge a reality through the following tactics:

  •          Carpooling to meetings outside of job sites
  •          Encouraging subs and other construction partners to adopt a no-idle policy on Ivory Homes' work sites
  •          Getting out of trucks and walking from house to house on the job site
  •          Making each trip efficient by only going to each area once per day
