Winterization Tips For Your Home
We’re experiencing a mild winter in Utah this year, but it’s still a good idea to keep in mind winterization tips that will keep the chill out.
Doors & Windows
Examine doors and windows for gaps where warm air can escape. Applying weather-stripping around problem draft areas will save you from a chill and a few extra dollars on your heating bill. Another option for your windows is to look into installing double paned windows to increase your energy efficiency. Our windows are well built with a UV rating of .28. The lower the rating, the better a product is at keeping heat inside the building. UV ratings are measured between .15 and 1.20.
Heating System
A common question that is asked is when should you change out your air filter? It’s recommended to change your standard air filter every three months. Ivory Homes uses Lennox air filters in all of our homes to ensure quality clean air for our customers. It’s also a good idea to make sure your chimneys and woodstoves are cleaned early in the season.
Be Prepared
Utahan’s are known for their preparedness, but it’s good to double check that you have the necessities if a wintery storm hits. Make sure you have a snow shovel or snow blower to plow your driveway and sidewalk. It’s also always a good idea to have extra water and canned food in storage, just in case!
